Introducing Christelle Capini: Fuse Recruitment’s New STEM Specialist

With an impressive background spanning scientific research, commercial sales, and recruitment, Christelle brings a unique blend of expertise and passion to the role. Her journey from the lab to the corporate world—and now to recruitment—is a testament to her adaptability and dedication to the STEM sector. 

From Science Enthusiast to Recruitment Expert 

Christelle’s career started in the lab, where her curiosity and love for science led her to earn a Master’s in Biotechnology and a PhD in Immunology, specialising in Autoimmunity. Originally from France, she moved to Australia over 20 years ago to continue her research at the Diamantina Institute, where she earned a prestigious Smart State Fellowship. 

However, her career took an exciting turn when she transitioned into commercial sales for global companies like Olympus, Sigma-Aldrich, and Merck. After over a decade in the industry, Christelle found her true calling in STEM recruitment, where she could use her deep industry knowledge to connect top scientific talent with the right opportunities. 

“I’ve never looked back,” she says. “Recruitment allows me to use my network and experience to help people find careers they love, while also supporting businesses in building strong, capable teams.” 

A Passion for Science and People 

Christelle’s love for science was sparked by an inspiring teacher in high school. “My Science teacher in Grade 10 and 11 was a huge influence,” she recalls. “I always told her I pursued a PhD because of her!” Her natural curiosity and creativity have always drawn her to science, which she describes as both an art and a discipline. 

Having worked across various roles in research, sales, and leadership, Christelle has a broad understanding of the STEM landscape. “I’ve recruited for a range of roles from junior lab roles to executive-level positions, across biotech, pharmaceuticals, engineering, and life sciences,” she explains. “I love the diversity of the industry and the impact these roles have on innovation and progress.” 

Overcoming Challenges in STEM Recruitment 

With years of experience in both science and recruitment, Christelle understands the complexities of the hiring market. One of the biggest challenges, she notes, is navigating Australia’s visa requirements. “There are so many talented candidates, but immigration policies can make it difficult. That’s where we step in—sourcing Australian or permanent resident candidates, even from overseas, to help our clients find the right fit.” 

Building trust with clients and candidates is at the heart of Christelle’s approach. “Honesty is everything,” she says. “I want to understand people’s goals, challenges, and needs so I can truly help them. The more information I have, the better I can support both candidates and clients.” 

A Standout Placement and a Lasting Impact 

For Christelle, the most rewarding placement wasn’t about securing the highest salary but about changing someone’s life. “I placed a young candidate into his first commercial sales role in life sciences, despite the client initially rejecting his CV,” she shares. “I knew he was the right fit because I understood both the candidate and the company. After a quick meeting, they hired him within a week! He’s been a successful account manager ever since. Moments like that make this job incredibly fulfilling.”

Christelle sees enormous potential for Fuse Recruitment to expand in the life sciences sector. “Many life science companies don’t see themselves as manufacturers, but they still need talent to scale, commercialise, and eventually move into production.
