An engagement fee is a deposit paid to the recruitment agency to commence a candidate search. Once the fee is paid, the role is deemed ‘engaged’. Much like the process of hiring a tradesperson, a deposit is paid upfront before the contractor starts - the amount of which is then deducted from the total invoice amount.
When you pay an engagement fee, there is a mutual commitment from both the recruitment agency and the employer to work together on the role. In contrast to a contingent recruitment model, where the full recruitment fee is due at the end of the process, candidate quality is higher, more time is spent consulting, and no shortcuts are taken.
