The days are longer, the wardrobe’s getting an overhaul, and there’s a natural pull to clear out what’s no longer serving you. Your career deserves the same attention.
Think of this as your seasonal checklist for making the rest of the year work in your favour. Nothing here takes more than an hour or two, and each step puts you in a stronger, more confident position, whether you’re happy where you are or quietly thinking about a change.

Look back before you look ahead
Take some time to think through the last six to eight months. What have you achieved that you’re proud of? What goals did you set in January, and did you follow through? Where did things slip, and why?
This isn’t about being hard on yourself. It’s about getting an honest view of where you stand, so the goals you set next actually reflect reality. Bonus: the wins you write down here are exactly what belongs on your CV.
Quick win: Block out 30 minutes to write down three wins and one thing you’d do differently.

Know your market value
It’s easy to lose track of what your role is actually worth, particularly if you’ve been with the same employer for a while. Research current salary benchmarks for your role and industry, or have the conversation with a recruiter who works in your field. Either way, you come out ahead: you’ll either confirm you’re being paid fairly or spot a gap worth addressing.
Quick win: Look up salary benchmarks for your role, or ask a recruiter in your industry for a read on current market rates.
1. Refresh your CV
Your CV should reflect who you are today, not who you were two or three roles ago. Add your recent achievements (grab them from step 1) and back them up with numbers or outcomes rather than just listing duties. Cut anything that’s no longer relevant, whether that’s outdated software skills or a role that no longer adds to your story. A current CV means you’re ready the moment the right opportunity comes up.
Quick win: Add one recent achievement to your CV, with a number attached wherever you can.
2. Check your tickets and licences
In manufacturing, the right ticket can be the difference between landing the interview and getting passed over. Check the expiry dates on your licences and certifications, whether that’s a forklift licence, first aid or a trade qualification, and make sure every one is listed on your CV. If something’s lapsed, now’s the time to renew it.
Quick win: List every current ticket and licence with its expiry date, and add any missing ones to your CV.
3. Update your LinkedIn, SEEK and Indeed profiles
Recruiters and hiring managers regularly check these profiles, and an outdated one can send the wrong signal even if you’re not actively job hunting. Make sure your current title, key achievements and skills are accurate, and that your photo is a genuine, professional and current shot of you.
Quick win: Check your job title and photo are accurate on all three platforms.
4. Set two or three goals for the rest of the year
With a clearer picture of where you stand, you can set goals that are realistic and actually mean something. A few focused goals you’ll follow through on beat a long list that’s forgotten by Christmas. Whether it’s a promotion, a new skill or a new role entirely, write them down somewhere you’ll revisit regularly.
Quick win: Write down two or three goals somewhere you’ll actually see them again.
5. Get on top of the admin
Filing your tax return, checking your super contributions, and reviewing your contract and entitlements. None of it’s exciting, but sorting it while things are quiet is far less stressful than scrambling later. If you’re lodging your own tax return, the deadline is 31 October.
Quick win: Pick one admin task you’ve been avoiding and get it done this week.
